The Haiku Stairs, also known as “Stairway to Heaven”, in Hawaii

The Stairway to Heaven, also known as the Haiku Stairs, is a steep hiking trail on the island of Oʻahu, the third largest of the Hawaiian islands. The trail begins with a wooden ladder spiked to the cliff on the south side of the Haʻikū Valley. Technically the stairway is closed to the public, but that has not stopped many curious and adventurous individuals from accessing its steep steps.

The stairway was installed in 1942 to enable antenna cables to be strung from one side of the cliffs above Haʻikū Valley to the other, providing a continuous communication link between Wahiawā and Haʻikū Valley Naval Radio Station at an elevation about 2,800 feet.
